25th International Conference of the African Association for Lexicography
Time & Location
About the Event
This year's conference will be AFRILEX's 25th Annual International Conference! Yes, our very first conference took place a quarter of a century ago, in July 1996, in Johannesburg, South Africa. However, AFRILEX was formally established in Stellenbosch one year earlier, on 14 July 1995, at the closure of the 8th International Conference of the African Languages Association of Southern Africa (ALASA).
It therefore gives me great pleasure to invite you to join us for our silver jubilee conference!
Our keynote speakers will be the following two distinguished academics:
Africa keynote: Prof. Rufus H. Gouws, Professor at Stellenbosch University and extraordinary/visiting professor at numerous universities abroad, Founding Chairperson of AFRILEX, first ever AFRILEX Africa keynote speaker (1996), Honorary AFRILEX member, practising lexicographer and leading international scholar in theoretical lexicography
International keynote: Dr Miloš Jakubíček, expert in natural language processing and computational linguistics at the Masaryk University in Brno, CEO of Lexical Computing, software developer for Sketch Engine and technical manager for ELEXIS
With best AFRILEX wishes
